My sister is planting her first garden that is all her own, I have garden envy. She is looking for flowers to fill up the partial shade portion of her garden, and specifically "not ugly bushes." Here are some not ugly bushes.

Yellow Stokes Aster

Garden Phlox

Cardinal Flower

Lenton Rose Red Lady
Violets, Forget-Me-Nots, Foxglove, Black eyed Susan's, and Columbine's are all great partial shade flowers and possible Hydrangea's as well.

Bells of Ireland are all too appropriate for a St. Patrick's Day bouquet. I love the festivity of the all green flower arrangement.

I don't know about the rest of you but we are being hit hard by the snow this week. March apparently wants to come in like a roaring lion. I have been perusing the blogosphere to try and forget about the cold and I found this. It is a photo of Marc Jacobs home, the flowers are what caught my eye. Aren't they gorgeous? I love the mass of long, thick stems.

Topiary from FTD
I know a topiary seems boring, but it's awesome. Plus it won't die in a week unless your thumb is black.

Roses from FTD
I think that finding a good arrangement of roses online is almost like winning the lottery. That being said, I love this arrangement. I sent a link to my brother who loves to give splashy roses to girls.

Orchids from Teleflora
Exotic and yes, expensive. Also gorgeous. Orchids used to be the flower to give, what happened?
For less expensive flowers check out Trader Joes (if you have one near by) they usually have a good selection of unique flowers.
